Meet our leadership team

Thomas Essl

Founder & CEO

Thomas is a seasoned design leader with experience across AI, data, health-, and climate-tech. Before founding Mustard Navy, he was a founding member of McKinsey’s GenAI Lab, and led design teams at QuantumBlack and Google.

He is an advisor to several AI startups, and lectures at the Royal College of Art.

Tom Good

Director, AI Product Design

Tom is a UX Design veteran with 15+ years experience across numerous industries, throughout this experience he’s lead teams at multiple agencies, produced award winning work for a variety of clients, and engaged in several events as an expert in design and AI. His strength is in variety, and he enjoys taking learnings from projects into new and unexpected use cases, finding the right solution and approach for the challenge at hand.

He is equally at home with a pen in his hand leading a workshop, crafting UI screens on screens, or embracing new tools, technologies and platforms to great effect. Tom is a leading member of BIMA AI Council and co-author of BIMA AI Standards.

All our work is in the spirit of continuous development and learning. We don’t believe in occasional big-bang reveals and presentations, but in inclusive, iterative co-creation and rapid progress of thought and substance. Things may get messy, and that’s okay.

We work in the open. All our work spaces are accessible to, and editable by the client. We behave professionally in these spaces, but aren’t afraid to exhibit uncertainty and rough thought.

We respect, listen to, and consider every suggestion, and we challenge fairly where the process requires it. Breakthroughs happen when the team takes risks, trusts their instincts and speaks their mind – not when they tiptoe around each other.
